OVERVIEW
This document describes college-wide "assessment," i.e., the process of assessing the extent to which the college and its programs meet stated objectives. The assessment process is based heavily on stakeholder feedback as indicated below. The information collected is used to identify strengths and weaknesses as well as suggestions for improvement to the college and its degree programs.
The activities described herein are conducted under the supervision of the Assessment Committee, which is appointed by the College of Business Dean. Assessment activities are also conducted by the college's departments; descriptions of those activities are provided in separate departmental assessment documents. College-wide assessment specifically encompasses the BBA and MBA programs. Departments handle assessment of individual BBA majors as well as programs for the MPA, BS with a major in computer science, and MS with a major in computer science.
Stakeholder Perceptions
College of Business assessment is based primarily on feedback from the following stakeholder groups. In most cases, perceptions are obtained by surveys which are designed, implemented, and analyzed under the direction of the Assessment Committee. Results and accompanying recommendations are presented to the college dean. Perceptions are obtained from the following groups according to the indicated time frame:
Student Performance
Because most educational objectives for the BBA program are addressed in the College of Business BBA core courses, student performance in these courses is also used as a means of program assessment. A minimum level of competence is ensured by requiring students to obtain at least a 2.0 grade point average in the BBA core.
Departmental Assessment
The Assessment Committee works with the departments within the College of Business to ensure that the effectiveness of the College in meeting the educational objectives of the individual majors is also assessed. Some or all of any department's assessment process may be based on stakeholder feedback collected as part of the college assessment process.
Periodic Review
The Assessment Committee should review the college assessment process for effectiveness at least once every five years. Results of the review including any recommendations will be delivered to the college dean.
