Learning Outcomes of the
Master of Professional Accountancy
The Master of Professional Accountancy (MPA) degree program is an academic
program which is designed to provide students with the necessary skills to prepare for
entry into the profession of public accountancy, which includes meeting the requirements
of the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy for attaining a license to practice public
accounting in the State of Texas. In the process of attaining the MPA degree, students
will be introduced to contemporary technical, theoretical, and conceptual accounting and
business skills which will benefit them not only in the pursuit of a career in public
accounting, but also for accounting careers in private and non-profit organizations and
also for advanced business studies.
In the comprehensive program leading to the MPA degree, students should
demonstrate at least the following:
- The student will demonstrate the ability to analyze accounts in any given cycle, determine the relevant audit assertions and prepare an effective audit program in accordance with current auditing standards
- The student will demonstrate the ability to analyze and evaluate relevant authoritative literature to resolve accounting issues or disclosure choices and communicate the proposed resolution in writing.
- The student will demonstrate the ability to select and apply the appropriate technology to solve business problems.
- The student will demonstrate the ability to identify, evaluate, and apply the appropriate legal or regulatory law to business problems.
- The student will demonstrate the ability to identify, evaluate, and apply the code of conduct for CPAs
